Pete Atkin: The Luck of the Draw review — Clive James's marvellous cabaret chum
If James, the poet/critic/broadcaster, had been writing in French, his lyrics would have been part of the chanson tradition. In this country you’d be tempted to file the songs under “cabaret” or “folk”. And just to mix things up even more, Atkin’s sidemen — led by that ultra-sensitive pianist and arranger Simon Wallace — come from the world of jazz.
