Sabah's cases hit an all-time high of 3,333 | Daily Express Online - Sabah's Leading News Portal

Sabah hit an all-time high of 3,333 Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, with three more cluster-hit schools identified, bringing the tally of Sabah’s education clusters to 22 in less than a month.
Sabah’s Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said the clusters were the Access Menawo Cluster in Keningau, Simpangan Paitan Cluster in Beluran and Bukit Garam Cluster in Kinabatangan, which saw some 84 infections cumulatively.
He said the Access Menawo Cluster was identified at the Sabah Institute of Islamic Education and Dakwah (Ipdas) Keningau, stemming from a 21-year-old female hostel student.
“She started having symptoms on Feb 6 and tested positive on the same day. Contact screenings found another 11 positive, bringing the tally in this cluster to 12. All cases are in category one and two,” said Masidi in a statement, Wednesday.
The Simpangan Paitan Cluster was identified at SMK Simpangan, Paitan, also stemming from a female hostel student who had flu, cough and sore throat since Feb 4, and tested positive two days later.
“Screening on close contacts at the hostel found another 22 positive, bringing the tally in this cluster to 23. All cases are in category one and two,” said Masidi.
The Bukit Garam Cluster was identified at SKM Bukit Garam 1, stemming from an 18-year-old student who started having symptoms on Jan 28.
“She had undergone RTK screening at the Kinabatangan Hospital on Feb 6 and was referred to the hospital after testing positive,” said Masidi, adding close contact screenings found another 46 positive among students and staff. All cases are mild.
He said two deaths were recorded, one each in Papar and Tuaran.
On the caseload, Masidi said 10 districts recorded three-digit cases, namely Kota Kinabalu (591), Sandakan (510), Penampang (324), Tuaran (266), Papar (224), Ranau (196), Tawau (191), Lahad Datu (169), Beaufort (116) and Kota Marudu (102).
He said sporadic infections remain high, with 1,724 cases being symptomatic, which is nearly 52 per cent.
“Some 185 cases were contributed by 30 active clusters, of which 22 were from education clusters,” he added.
Despite the surge, Masidi said 99.55 per cent of the caseload are mild, with 3,318 out of 3,333 cases being category one and two infections. There are six cases each in category three and four and three in category five.
Some 420 Covid-19 patients have been discharged from the hospital while 1,919 patients are currently receiving treatment at hospitals, low risk quarantine and treatment centres (PKRCs), prisons/temporary detention centres and private facilities
