What he is talking about is a further damper on job creation and on consumer spending. we need to relieve the burden on working people in order that they can reassume a little class way of life again. i are not going to do that by increasing the tax burden on them or taking away the social security and the medicare or the pennings. we discovered as soon as you asked two questions about 9-9-9, he would say i don t know, we haven t thought about that implication. when you try to go to this thing that joe and herman cain think is simplification, your only goal is make it sound simpler. they don t realize all of the complexities they are introducing into it. it just shocks me that a candidate would take a discredited loser candidate s idea from a presidential campaign and throw it into a congressional campaign. ....

In michigan. what you see is the republican saying if this is about simplifying the tax code we re for it. that is what we want to do. we believe in simplification. when they look at the obama plan, what do they say? this is going to increase the amount of revenue coming from corporate america in to the u.s. government. in that sense, they say this could be just veil for increase taxation and they don t want any part of it. bret: liz, a lot of politics in play, obviously. a lot of politics, obviously. in response to the sound bite you played a minute ago, to some extent it s a cynical exercise to release corporate tax plan on the same day as your likely republican opponent. but on the other hand tax reform is not going to happen. everybody knows that. there is absolutely no chance. bret: up on capitol hill. it is not going to happen. it is just not going to happen. we have saw this with the debt ceiling debate. fight over taxes is about as entrenched and as difficult as ....

Later. remember last summer when the president was citing down behind closes doors on the golf course was speaker john boehner talking about the grand bargain, the package when the country was about to hit the debt ceiling that would have reduced the deficit by $4 trillion. it came off the table because of revolt that the speaker faced within his own party. part of that was a simplification of the tax code. that was certainly on the table. what the white house has done is sort of steal a political march on republicans and presidential candidates like mitt romney. they talk about lowering the corporate tax rate. we ve heard all about job creators and what an onus is is on them to have one of the highest rates in the industrialized world but nothing said here today about by the administration about the individual tax rate. to answer your question, unlikely to go anywhere in congress this year. before you go, i have to play a bit of sound for you. listen to this. come on, baby don t y ....

We need to significantly reduce spending on a going-forward basis. which involves social insurance reforms, defense and other spending reductions, et cetera. but we re also going to need more revenues. my question is will you and your party support comprehensive tax reform that broadens the base, that lowers rates, but that will generate more revenues as a percentage of gdp than the historical average of 18.4%? because i can tell you the math doesn t work otherwise. well, first of all, my preference would be to have a smaller government where we could get by with 18.5, our historical level. but i acknowledge, given the dem dwrasks and given where we are politically, very tough to get there. let s have the simplification and reform the code. that might very well produce higher than 18.5% gdp revenue. i ve never said if it does, suddenly we have to toss that. ....
