preventing another january 6th. plus, trump s pick for governor in arizona takes a page right out of his playbook. kari lake is declaring victory before all of the votes are counted and struggles to explain how her win doesn t clash with her claims of voter fraud. good morning, welcome to way too early. on this thursday august 4th. i m jonathan lemire. thank you for being with us. the number two democrat in the senate is calling on the department of defense to open an internal investigation into missing texts from key officials on january 6th. in a letter yesterday, majority whip and judiciary committee chair dick durbin of illinois asked the d.o.d. s inspector general to launch a probe into the deleted communications of several trump appointed officials, who were were tasked with deploying the national guard during the capitol riot. the letter reads this way. the disappearance of this critical information could jeopardize efforts to learn the full truth about january 6
some of these revenue razors were the same, so the corporate minimum tax which is going to be a major revenue race reyesr for deal, sin sinema issued a statement last year which she called a common sense step, using her words, in the right direction. i m told that the language of that tax, in the proposed bill now, is more or less the same as it was last year. so some folks are baffled that, you know, sinema is voicing some opposition to it right now. cnn reported that she asked on a call this week, she asked the business leader in arizona, is this written in a bad way, and so i think there s some exasperation that these issues that were kind of thought to be settled or at least dealt with, or talked through, are kinds of on the chopping block again. but i think ultimately folks feel that she is going to get to yes at some point. democrats will be nervous
it worse? is the bill getting better? i think we all knew ultimately to get something through the senate, we are going to have to sell it for something smaller. the prescription drug piece of this bill is an example, something that gotten better overtime. there was an outcry and outrage. and so over the course of the week and a half, we are able to negotiate with sin sinema and os of this landmark agreement going into medicare and drug prices. there is two sides of the coin here. we could have pushed something through two weeks of the governor s race in virginia. it may not have included production and prescription drug cost. it sometimes taken a little bit of extra time feel better.
people of arizona. it is a state that is increasingly latino and latin that and a state where indigenous people really just showed up and organized in incredible, remarkable ways for the presidential election. it is a place where working class populous politics is really taking off and i think that, you know, if you re home in arizona, it s a question you may want to raise. we ve talked gottheimer and sin sinema. that was a symbol, that image. as like as he likes to troll us, he is kind of right when he says democrats are in this boat because your party didn t elect enough people to congress in general last november and especially people with your views. progressives didn t win enough elections. that s fair, isn t it?
hurricanes. jonathan lemire and anna palmer is still was. president biden met with a parade of lawmakers yesterday in an attempt to get members to support his agenda. that includes the $3.5 trillion spending bill. his first meeting was with democratic leadership. he spoke with a group of moderate democrats including joe manchin of west virginia and sin sinema in arizona. and congresswoman jayapal joins us now. it s great to have you on the show. i want to hear more about the meeting with the president yesterday. what s the potential that the
