can border security before comprehensive immigration reform. there's a stalemate, and that really is at the white house's feet. paul: jason, four senators -- manchin, sinema, tilliss and cornyn -- put together a bill that would allow for a new agency temporarily to enforce something like titling 42. along with the house bill, is there any chance we could actually see something get done? >> i don't -- no, i don't think so. i think if that was possible, he would have done it before this. i mean, that manchin -- i'm sorry, the tillis and sinema bill would have given them a 2-year reprieve, extending title title 42 the legislatively, as it should be done, and he passed on that. the democrats equate border enforcement with racism at this point x that's joe biden's problem. he's going to deal with that wing of his party. paul: all right. when we come back, the crisis at the southern border and the debt ceiling showdown in washington are casting a shadow over president biden's bid for a
package, congress could do that mayorkas is looking for. >> republicans did pass, let's say you don't like that, that is a trump plan, even though it worked i would argue it's still compassionate. kirsten sinema. john tester, manchin make comments, sinema has a bipartisan plan in the senate, why can't kamala harris, get over to congress, pass that, increase president biden's power, why not lead on this issue with your own people in the party? >> well kirsten sinema is not a democrat. we are -- i agree, look. and mark kelly in arizona, there are a lot of democrats who represent border states or district that we are listening to and they are going to be part of the solution, i can guarantee
expired, but sinema did tell me in that pen and paddle without reporters, look, the administration had time to fix this problem. she's not a fan of what the house republicans passed, but at least that gives them a starting point, she says, for negotiations. remember she's also working on a comprehensive border security package with senator tom tillis. right now really an impasse between democrats and republicans on actually getting something done, but it's been four decades since congress passed comprehensive border security measures and immigration reform. >> we heard the white house yesterday calling for that, but as you say there's little to no chance of that happening. biden officials publicly acknowledge this is a vulnerability. i want to ask you about our next story, and that's today's meeting between president biden and top congressional leaders has been postponed as staffers for both the president and house speaker kevin mccarthy continue negotiations on the debt limit. a white house spokesperson says that meeting will now happen at
kpre hence i-way forward, it's not just republicans who moved to the right. democrats are moving to the left. that makes it harder to find partners across the aisle. sinema and tillis have a bill that would essentially do the same thing that title 42 is doing. and give the biden administration a little more time, a little more runway to come up with a solution, but house republicans aren't interested this that coming to the floor. a lot of democrats say we don't want to do anything on immigration unless it's the entire package that we are looking for. >> and this has been intractable forever. i covered the george w. bush white house. the point person for the president says we're going to try to do things. this might be ayachtic, but congress shares the blame. >> we are clear eyed about the challenges we are likely to face in the days and weeks ahead. which have the potential to be

if he was competent. he just said the maga republicans have taken over the house. why didn't he raise the debt limit before the maga republicans took over the house? you know, he -- before january he controlled the white house, the house and the senate, he's passed trillions of dollars in spending using budget reconciliation bills with democrat votes alone, he could have passed it in a budget reconciliation bill, he could have passed it as part of the inflation reduction act. why didn't he do that? answer, politics. they didn't want to own it. if you raise the debt limit you have to put a number on it didn't want to go into the midterm elections with them saying that, and he did not want to negotiate with manchin and sinema, what if it failed because democrats could not raise the debt limit so he wanted to make republicans own the debt limit increase and so this is an entirely manufactured crisis, self-inflicted crisis he could have solved by doing this
