On April 25, Taichung residents can, if they’re so inclined, celebrate the first anniversary of the opening of the city’s metro system.
Taichung Mass Rapid Transit Corp’s Green Line which is currently the system’s only line connects 18 stations over a distance of 16.71km, serving the districts of Wuri (烏日), South (南), Nantun (南屯), Situn (西屯), North (北) and Beitun (北屯).
The southernmost station may be just a few minutes walk from Taichung High-Speed Railway Station, but the Green Line isn’t especially convenient for travelers who fly in, or for those who arrive by conventional express at Taichung’s ....

Detention of nurse accused of hurting infant approved

The Taichung District Court has approved a detainment order for a female nurse working at a postpartum nursing center in the city’s Situn District (西屯) for allegedly injuring a 28-day-old boy.
The 37-year-old defendant, surnamed Tseng (曾), has been dismissed from her job, the center said, adding that it would take full responsibility if it is found complicit.
While Tseng, who had been working at the center for four years, has not sworn an affidavit on the incident, she reportedly denied abusing the infant, saying that her “improper actions” were because she was too tired due to excessive work. ....
