Great things are supposed to happen in the future regarding space exploration. And what better way to celebrate that than with a fan-made Lego Ideas set?...
This year in space includes NASA's Artemis launch, new James Webb Space Telescope images and a historic mission crashing into an asteroid.
The next step is artemis 2. i've seen that hardware at various nasa centres and the orion at the kennedy space center, so they're building the next sls rocket in new orleans, it'll be shipped here early next year, then they will combine it with the orion later in the year and then, that mission, artemis 2, will carry four astronauts looping around the moon — they won't go into orbit but they'll go around the moon, about a ten—day flight. there'll be three americans and one canadian, so they'll be the first person, non—american, to fly. and europe, again, will be involved in that, buildin...
It's been a long time since a vehicle that could carry people was that close to the surface of the moon. to me, that's hugely exciting. when i was a boy, that's when the people first went to the moon and so, you know, exploration and settlement, it always takes time. to me, it's wonderful that we have the technology now to be able to get that close, and the doors that it's opening. in some of those images, not only can you see the surface of the earth, but you can look back and see the surface of the moon, but you can look back and see the entire earth as one place. just an amazing perspective...
On the orion spacecraft. they've also just completed what's called the translunar injection. it's a burn essentially which means there is an engine on the orion spacecraft separate from the sls rocket. and it completed this roughly 18-minute-long burn. so now the orion spacecraft is well on its way to the moon. and it's going to take between five and six days for it to get there. then it's going to get within about 60 miles of the lunar surface, very close. we should be able to get some great images of that beamed back here to earth. then it's going to fly farther than any other spacecraft des...
