HIGHLAND businesses will be "pleasantly surprised" at detailed plans for the reopening of the economy as further corornavirus restrictions are eased – though some may not make it to the end of April.

Highland businesses will be 'pleasantly surprised' at lockdown easing measures

North business leader David Richardson believes firms in the region will be "pleasantly surprised" at the measures set out by Nicola Sturgeon on the easing of Scotland's lockdown.
Steps announced by the First Minister include the "stay at home" regulations being lifted on April 2 and replaced with guidance to "stay local", with more services including hairdressers, garden centres and non-essential click-and-collect services to open from April 5.

5G mobile data is set be trialled in Shetland for the first time as part of a UK Government programme.
A private 5G network will be set up at construction firm BAM Nuttall’s base in Shetland to help the company monitor process and track assets using cameras, drones, mixed reality and IoT sensors.

The contractor is currently working on the transmission link cable project.
Its regional office in Kilsyth is also involved in the 5G trial, with the project costing nearly £1.7 million in total.
BAM Nuttall’s head of innovation Colin Evison said: “We are really excited to join the 5G Create programme and have the opportunity to further develop our digital capability that will help us in our mission to build sustainable environments that enhance people’s lives.
