The annual Bedford County Toys for Tots campaign is underway with multiple signup locations scheduled throughout the county.

Fewer than 10,000 voters in Bedford County cast a ballot during the primary election on Tuesday, according to unofficial results. While overall vote counts — which totaled 9,587 — were comparatively low to midterm and presidential election years, Deb Brown, director of elections, said there were a high number of write-in votes, which exceeded 2,600. Kevin Diehl of Bedford received 1,588 votes on the Republican side for Magisterial District Judge Office 57-03-2 and will appear on the ballot in November. An English oak planted in the cemetery at the corner of Juliana and John streets was dedicated on Arbor Day as part of Bedford County’s ongoing 250th anniversary celebrations. Larry Smith, one of the leading organizers for the sestercentennial celebrations this year, said the English oak, sometimes called the Royal Tree, was selected as a nod to the country’s English roots. “So many people forget the fact that we were English up until 1775,” Smith said. Criminal Homicide Charges 11:14 pm Authorities have released new details as state police in Bedford County are still searching for Tico Franklin, who’s wanted for criminal homicide in the shooting death of Brian Hunter. Troopers say that Hunter and Franklin knew each other but wouldn’t say why the altercation occurred to begin with. The shooting occurred outside of a house on Mile Level Road just off Route 30 in Snake Spring Township.
