The 75th anniversary of the assassination of Myanmar's independence hero and father of ousted leader Aung San Suu Kyi was a muted affair Tuesday, with soldiers patrolling Yangon's streets and anti-junta demonstrators staging small protests in other parts of the country.
In the ceremony on the 75th Martyrs’ Day, the NUG Acting President urged the public to nurture brave hearts to liberate them from the slavery of the military junta while paying tribute to General Aung San and other martyrs.
Authorities ramped up security at official ceremonies, while anti-junta forces marched and held protests.
