A relatively poor turnout of just over 40 residents attended the City of Cape Town’s stakeholder engagement session for Subcouncil 8, which was held at the Strand Town Hall last Wednesday (15 November).
Alarm bells are being raised about the Soet River contamination in Strand, which conservationists claim is developing into an environmental and health catastrophe.
An urgent meeting between City of Cape Town officials and residents of Strand, which took place last Wednesday evening (6 September) seemed to address concerns of the public somewhat relating to ongoing sewage overflows and sinkholes, but nevertheless concerns remain on the ability by the City to resolve the issues within the next year.
Plans to address increasing sewer problems are in the pipeline for Strand in the next two years.
