When it gets this much rain in this period of time? yeah, here in santa cruz county, we ve had some parts of our county get over 34 inches of rain since the 26th of december. and when you receive that much rain in such a short period of time, the soils, as you acknowledged, are saturated and the flooding is exacerbated and much quicker to happen with even less rain than you would be accustomed to. so we re seeing slope failures and road failures because of the saturation, but we re also seeing the rivers react much more rapidly and dramatically to relatively modest amounts of rain. what kind of calls are you getting? is it a lot related to the flooding? are people being trapped in their homes? are they dealing with mud slides? i think all of the above, unfortunately. you know, we have got a lot of people in our mountain regions where power lines have been severed from falling redwood trees or majestic redwood trees ....

Rain, so people are starting to get fatigued, as the governor mentioned there. we are dealing with a lot of impacts related to rain and wind. the soils are very, very wet and soggy so doesn t even take a lot of wind to start knocking down trees and power lines, so we are starting to see some of the damage really start to add up with the storm series that we have had, and with more rain on the way it will continue to add to some of those impacts. are homes being evacuated? some areas have been evacuated, mainly in river zones where rivers are starting to exceed at specified locations. we have also had some coastal erosion and coastal flooding, so they are the main areas where there have been evacuations, and some of our dams have been stressed by the amount of water that is currently contained in them so there have been some localised levy breaches as well, so that is where most of the evacuation orders have been taking place. of course these storms come after a prolonged period ....

Who s a meteorologist with the national weather service gave me this update from 0xnard in california. we re currently seeing a storm hitting southern california today. the main part of the system is actually starting to push off to our east but we still have some lingering showers, rain showers and snow showers in the mountains for tonight. so, this storm has been a fairly decent size storm nothing compared to what we saw earlier in the week, but then, we also have an additional storm after a little bit of a break in the activity during the day tomorrow. we ll see more rain and mountain snow tomorrow night into monday night. what effect is that having on people who live there and on the infrastructure in the region? yeah, we saw quite a bit of destruction earlier in the week with that powerful atmospheric river storm. today, the impacts have been more minimal but because of all the damage and the very saturated soils, any additional rainfall, like we re seeing today and with our u ....
