Congress that have shown no interest in working with us on any of these issues. the last thing this country needs is two years of gridlock because we have a group that doesn t want to cooperate. these things that joe mentioned, these things we are proposing are things that were republican ideas, not democrats. many of them, you know, there has been bipartisan support for infrastructure and bipartisan support for research and experimentation and tax credits and bipartisanship support for it and all of a sudden no support for them. we don t want a situation where we have a lockdown in washington because we have republicans more interested in scoring political points than solving problems. speaking of tracks, i know somebody who has been running around the track. he seems more energetic. with his ankle weights on. he is looking healthy. david, have you lost weight? i have lost a little weight. thanks for noticing. ....

Saying democrats have promised change but they are in big trouble? you are seeing this play out in the primaries and they are putting in place an extreme candidates on the republican side. when it comes down to november is going to be a choice. when they see the folks being represented on the republican side that is out of the mainstream and their choice is to have someone that knows who is doing and address their problems and have the power to adhere to them, then i think the choice will be better for democrats. that is what is it going to prevail in november. julie: what do you think the democrats in congress have proven to when it comes to solving problems. wouldn t you say that voters might see congress as solving problems by throwing money at it. we re talking about deficit being greater and greater while the jobless numbers maybe have decreased a bit we still have tens of thousands of people ....

To follow through. we re going to disagree on things. there are going to be disagreements in politics, as there should be. that s what makes america so great and vibrant. the challenge is when you are so close minded and unwilling to think on your own and unwilling to follow through is when people lose out. so that was probably the disappointment or the letdown. but politics to me, i m still infected with it, and infused with it from the standpoint that it s about solving problems. and the fact the ability for us to get back to that point, president obama, republicans, democrats in the congress, the more likely it is we ll get things done. we ll continue to disagree. but the key is you ve got to begin solving aren t we further away from that than we ve been in a very long time? i think we are. look at the polls and the cynicism about what congress can and is doing. how do you get back from there? todd purdham wrote a good piece about how washington is broken and george pack ....

100 days of his presidency define the new deal. the first term of his presidency we got the fdc and fdic and the social security administration and this president needs to come up with radical new ideas to address the challenges in this economy. you know, there are two aspects of this, really, one is the economic policy. sure. the things that he has been doing with the stimulus package and so on. the other thing is that consumer confidence because if people are afraid they re not going to spend money and businesses will not be able to hire and on and on and on. we all know what the domino effect of that is. how much of this recovery is about what the president presents and the confidence he gives the american people and how much of it is about economic policy? it is a mixture of oboth. the president has to come up with job creation. he has to expand government programs in a way that he hasn t done to date. to date he has taken short-term approaches to solving problems. sounds ....
