Anyone aged 11 years and over who resides in, works in, or travels through the affected boroughs of south London is “strongly encouraged” to take a Covid-19 PCR test, says NHS
The UK’s National Health Service (NHS) has said it is using a surge testing system in two areas of south London this week after it was found to have a “significant” cluster of the faster-spreading South African variant of Covid-19.
The NHS Test and Trace said it is providing additional testing and genomic sequencing across parts of Wandsworth and Lambeth, where 44 confirmed and 30 probable cases of the variant first identified in South Africa have been found.

Health officials in New Brunswick confirmed on Monday two cases of a variant of the novel coronavirus first identified in South Africa.
Officials said the two cases were reported in the Saint John region earlier this month. Chief medical officer of health Dr. Jennifer Russell says one case is related to travel outside Canada and the other involves a contact of that traveller.

The South African variant of the novel coronavirus can “break through” Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine to some extent, claimed an Israeli study that has not been peer reviewed. The researchers have found out that the novel coronavirus variant discovered in South Africa managed to penetrate the protection offered by the double-dose Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine to some degree even though it still remains unclear just how much efficacy of the shots is lost. The study released on April 10 is based on the comparison of nearly 400 people who tested positive for COVID-19 after two weeks or more of receiving the jabs, against same number of unvaccinated patients with the disease while matching age and gender and other characteristics.

Observing the recent surge of coronavirus cases, it was assumed that a new Covid-19 strain had spread in Bangladesh.
The country has direct communication with UK, with hundreds of expatriates coming to Bangladesh every month. In December last year, a new strain of Covid-19 (B117) was detected in the UK.
All these factors led to the assumption that the second wave of coronavirus in Bangladesh was caused by the new UK variant.
But a recent study of icddr,b reveals that the South African variant (B1351) of Covid-19 is dominant in Dhaka. This finding forces a rethink.

Sure Looks Like MSNBC Is Being 'Racist' With Their Latest Remarks on Virus Variant

Card image cap

There’s no doubt that MSNBC reliably pushes the liberal line.
They were definitely all in criticizing calling the Wuhan coronavirus the “China virus” or identifying the virus by its place of origin, despite the fact that viruses have been called by places of origin for eons, absolutely nothing to do with race.
Anti-Asian bias rose after media, officials used 'China virus,' report shows https://t.co/fEZuGB8cC8pic.twitter.com/2AXh2SW3GM
But because President Donald Trump called it the China virus last year and reminded people of the CCP’s involvement in initially covering up the nature of the virus, folks on the left wanted to use it as an attack point to somehow claim Trump was racist even if that meant that they were essentially skipping right over or ignoring the CCP coverup and not holding the government accountable.

Pfizer's COVID-19 Vaccine Works Against South African Variant

Card image cap

Pfizer and BioNTech announced Thursday that the ongoing Phase 3 clinical trial of their coronavirus vaccine has confirmed its protection lasts at least six months after the second dose, according to a press release by the companies.
According to the new data, the vaccine's overall efficacy rate is 91.3 percent which is lower than the 95 percent originally reported in November. It has also been found to be fully effective against the B.1.351 variant of the virus which was first discovered in South Africa.
"The vaccine was 100 percent effective against severe disease as defined by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and 95.3% effective against severe COVID-19 as defined by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)," Pfizer and BioNTech wrote in a joint statement.

New Delhi: The Union health ministry on Tuesday said the situation of Novel Coronavirus in India is going from "bad to worse” over the last few weeks and the whole nation is potentially at risk. “Trends show the virus is still very active... just when we think we can control it, it sparks back… We are facing an increasingly severe and intensive situation in some districts but the whole country is potentially at risk. The virus needs to be eliminated," said Dr V.K. Paul, the chairman of the National Expert Committee on Vaccine Administration.

- CVnCoV induces robust antibody titers with virus variant neutralizing capacity in immunized animals
- Full protection of immunized mice from infection and mortality during variant challenge infection
TÜBINGEN, Germany/ BOSTON, USA - March 23, 2021 - CureVac N.V. (Nasdaq: CVAC), a global biopharmaceutical company developing a new class of transformative medicines based on messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA), today announced the publication of preclinical data demonstrating that their COVID-19 vaccine candidate, CVnCoV, protects against challenge infections with the SARS-CoV-2 Variant of Concern B.1.351 (also referred to as the "South African" variant) and a strain of the original SARS-CoV-2 B1 lineage (BavPat1) in a transgenic mouse model. Consistent with available variant studies, the neutralization capacity of robust antibody titers was shown to be impacted by the B.1.351 variant compared to the original strain. However, vaccinated animals were fully protected from lethal challenge infections with both strains. The full manuscript of the preclinical data is available on the bioRxiv preprint server.

• Out of the total 808,251 tests done since the beginning of the response, 146,080 were confirmed positive for SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19).
• Although slight improvement in testing is seen in the West (23% increase), testing continues to be West Tripoli-centric with very low levels of testing in the East and South during reporting week. (-See fig. 1)
• The positivity rate for Epi-Week 11 decreased to 17.9%, this may attributable to low laboratory testing reported from the East (79% decrease).
• Community transmission is ongoing. The overall number of new cases reported shows a 16% increase compared to the prior week, with East reporting a 74% increase in new cases.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - More than one million Virginians are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, but with variants spreading in communities, experts warn of another possible wave of sicknesses.
“The virus is still circulating. So even without new variants there’s a risk that by relaxing our social distancing and mask wearing that we can see a fourth wave,” William Petri, an infectious disease doctor at UVA Health, said.
Even though coronavirus cases in the Blue Ridge Health District are low, Petri warns about a contagious variant in the commonwealth.
