Managing editor. well-done. fascinating list of people put together and really crosses the spectrum. let s go to jeffrey canada because his work influenced the area even outside of harlem. is that what you put him on this list? definitely. education is an ongoing challenge in america. president obama referred to it as a sputnik moment for us this year. people are looking for innovative ways to make our schools better. the federal government is looking to him, to his model to say, is this scalable? can we follow his model of involving a whole community in the education of its children? as we look to the political world, of course, the president is on the list. that would be expected, but the man he goes toe to toe with is john boehner on the list. for a similar kind of reason. he s speaker of the house. he s got a big job on his plate. he s balancing a lot of unruly ....
Block that is completely decimated. that s the roof. they talked about part of this terminal, the roof being taken away. that s it right there. i mean that s in st. louis. we ve had more than 150 flights grounded and again incoming and outgoing flights absolutely canceled right now. so st. louis lambert airport is shut down for business. whether it will re-open is anybody s guess. they have to clean everything out first, and we ll get a live report shortly to see how things stand there in st. louis if you re planning to travel in the area, that s a place where a lot of connections are made through the midwest. this could be a real domino effect of wrecking havoc in the skies. members of congress are away from washington this weekend, and many are getting an earful from the voters back home. the nation is divided against ....
They were taken to the hospital for cuts as a result of all the flying glass. i had one emergency management director tell me it looks like lambert airport may be closed for days. you can t clean it it it up in a matter of hours. this is maryland heights, missouri, that s an area about 16, 17 miles or so northwest of downtown st. louis. it s an area that received damage across 16 square miles there. the northern part of the suburb sustained the absolute worst damage, though miraculously thus far no fatalities reported. emergency management director gary earls told us there were alarms sounding three different times in advance of the tornadoes. take a look at cleanup and the mess there. that street has been most particularly hard-hit, about the worst we ve seen. a couple of houses look bare-bone standing and a lot of homes reduced to splinters there ....
Horrible situations like this, and at least if there s a heads-up that can reduce people being injured or loss of life. tell me about that. was there a warning system in place? did you have people getting out? yes, we have fairly comprehensive siren systems in st. louis county, although we d like to make it better. i think we re in the process of making it better. we sounded sirens three different times through this area. there was lots of advance warning. the national weather service, i think, did a great job for us helping us to learn about that. at this point we haven t found anybody that has been seriously injured, which thank god for that. that is a miracle as we look at this video. with regard to maryland heights there s one street in particular from aerials, it looks like the entire street has been reduced to splinters. these people that got out of their homes, where did they have to go? the american red cross has opened a shelter in maryland ....
