An attempt to launch a rocket into space from UK soil last night has ended in failure after it could not reach its final orbit.

Virgin Orbit announced that its first-ever orbital mission launched from the UK had suffered an anomaly resulting in the loss of nine satellites.

Virgin Orbit says its LauncherOne rocket "experienced an anomaly" just before it could deliver its payload. The problem arose shortly after a maneuver called the "barbecue roll."
