Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura has lost his seat following a lengthy tussle with the ruling Jubilee Party.
Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka declared the seat vacant through a gazette notice issued on Monday.
The move follows a decision by Jubilee Party to expel him after he was accused of campaigning for a candidate of a different political outfit.
“It is notified for the information of the public that pursuant to Article103 (1) (e) (i) of the Constitution and section 37 of the Elections Act, the seat of the Member of the Senate elected under Article 98 (1) (d) of the Constitution and held by Hon. Isaac Mwaura Maigua became vacant, with effect from the 7th May 2021,” the notice read. ....

Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura loses senatorial seat, Speaker gazettes position

Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura has lost his Senatorial seat after Speaker Kenneth Lusaka gazetted his position.
In a gazette notice dated May, 10, 2021, Lusaka said the gazettement was in line with Article 98 (I) (d) of the constitution.
It is notified for the information of the general public that pursuant to article 103(I) (e) (i) of the constitution section 37 of the Elections Act, the seat of Member of the Senate .. held by Hon. Isaac Mwaura Maigua became vacant with effect from May 7, 2021, read the notice.
Senator Mwaura last week suffered a blow when the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal upheld a decision of the ruling Jubilee Party to expel him on grounds of indiscipline. ....

• According to the order paper, the Bill would proceed to the third reading stage on Thursday afternoon where members would vote on it.
• The two Houses of Parliament are this week deciding on whether lawmakers can amend the Constitution of Kenya (Amendment) Bill, 2020 after the heated debate last week.
The debate on the Constitution of Kenya (Amendment) Bill, 2020 resumed in the Senate on Thursday morning ahead of the planned voting in the afternoon.

Meru Senator Mithika Linturi was Wednesday afternoon arrested under unclear circumstances, forcing Speaker Kenneth Lusaka to postpone the Senate sitting on the BBI Bill.
Linturi was later released following complaints from Senators who threatened to boycott the debate on the BBI Bill.
When the Meru senator returned to the chambers, he said armed DCI officers who were in three vehicles dramatically arrested him from his home in Nairobi.
“The few hours I have been in the hands of my good brother Kinoti has not been one of the best experiences, to say the least. But I must thank this House who have seen it very necessary to stand up and be with me…not because I am not answerable to agencies investigating any matter or that I am not supposed to be arrested,” said Linturi. ....
