KUALA LUMPUR, May 27 The government has channelled RM66 million to 13,865 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and mid-tier companies in the form of grants and loans for subscription to digitalisation services as of May 14. Finance Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz said for the National Economic Recovery Plan (Penjana) micro credit financing under Bank Simpanan Nasional, a total of RM421.2 million had been distributed which benefited 12,666 micro SMEs, including those in the retail and services sectors.

Permerkasa: Extension of initiatives for tourism sector

PETALING JAYA: The government will extend and provide various tax incentives for the tourism sector under the Pemerkasa economic stimulus package. Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the government would extend the tourism tax and the service tax exemption for accommodation provided by hotel operators until December this year. He added that the government would also extend tax incentives for tour operators until the year of assessment 2022 as well as to allow the deferment of payment of monthly income tax instalments from April to Dec 31,2021 to tourism industry companies and selected industries such as cinemas and spas. There will also be an entertainment duty exemption on admission fees to entertainment venues, stage performances, sporting events and competitions as well as all cinema screenings in all Federal Territories, he added.

KUALA LUMPUR (March 17): The government has introduced new initiatives and extended existing ones for tourism, retail and other sectors that are affected by Covid-19 under the PEMERKASA stimulus package announced by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today. To further encourage domestic tourism, the government has extended the exemption for tourism tax and services tax for hotel accommodation until Dec 31, 2021. It has also announced entertainment duty exemption for entrance fees into entertainment premises including theme parks, stage performances, sports events and movie screenings within Federal Territories. However, the details on the period was not stated. Individuals who purchase tourism packages from tour agents that are registered with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) are also eligible for tax relief of up to RM1,000.
