Community leaders as well as former and future Olympians met at Rice-Eccles Stadium on Tuesday for a commemorative lighting of the torch to celebrate 20 years since the Winter Olympics were held in Salt Lake City, while also looking forward with hope for the Games to return.
The funding comes from the prominent Eccles family.
The Spence Eccles Boys & Girls Club will serve youth living in the Rose Park and Fair Park communities. Wednesday’s opening celebration, delayed by the pandemic last year, included remarks from LeAnn Saldivar, outgoing president and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Salt Lake, and Spencer F. Eccles, for whom the club is named.
