A local student, Rachel Davis of Mammoth Spring High School, is among 23 Coca-Cola scholar semifinalists in Arkansas. Across the country, 1,609 students were selected from 99,403 applicants or 1.6% to continue through the selection process. The semifinalists are submitting their applications to be reviewed by the organization’s program reading committee. After this review, 250 will advance as regional finalists, with 150 becoming Coca-Cola scholars and receiving $20,000 college scholarships. The Norfork High School basketball teams had a tough night on the road Tuesday, as they were swept at Viola. The Lady Panthers fell to the Lady Longhorns 68-41. Lindsey Browning was Viola’s top scorer with 31 points and 12 rebounds, A.J. McCandlis ended up with 16 points, and Kennedy Renfrom provided 12. The Lady Longhorns improve to 15-2 overall and 6-0 in the 1A-2. Norfork did not fare any better on the boys’ side. The Panthers lost to Viola by a final of 69-31.
