As part of the Spring Memorandum (voorjaarsnota), the Dutch government is postponing the plan for free childcare until 2027 and will scrap the STAP budget. 

In its Spring Memorandum, the Amsterdam office of mayor and aldermen set 100 million euros aside for the planned bridge of the IJ river, several sources told Parool. That is about a third of the bridge’s estimated cost. The Transport Region will also contribute about 100 million euros. The other 100 million must still be raised in the coming years.

The government will implement 2.5 billion euros in budget cuts across all Ministries except for Defense, sources told RTL Nieuws. The Ministry of Social Affairs’ poverty policy will also keep its original budget.

Minister Sigrid Kaag of Finance will announce that, after a few years of spending, budget cuts are back for the Dutch government, sources told the newspaper AD. Its time for the government to show some more discipline again, will be Kaag’s message at the presentation of the Spring Memorandum - the spring update to the national budget.

The Cabinet is considering increasing the healthcare deductible and higher flight tax for longer distances as it tries to find ways to fill the gaping hole in the national budget. Ministers are meeting regularly to negotiate the Spring Memorandum - the spring update for the 2023 budget.
