Mandatory disability insurance for self-employed people in the Netherlands will cost a maximum of 195 euros per month, according to a bill outgoing Minister Karien van Gennip of Social Affairs put online for public consultation.
There is an increase in people who are unable to work due to mental issues and are therefore applying for disability benefits, said outgoing Social Affairs Minister Karien van Gennip. These individuals are mainly “younger people with burnout.” The minister is worried about the trend. The social benefits agency, UWV, has also noticed an increase in the number of people unable to work. They saw an increase in benefits applications of 15 percent in 2023 than the year before.
A new financing system for childcare should offer parents more certainty and should remove the risk that a government office will have to demand the return of large sums of money for benefits that were paid out incorrectly. The caretaker Cabinet believes that direct payments to childcare providers is the best solution for this, instead of the current system in which parents pay for childcare themselves and receive an allowance from the government to offset the amount.
