Growth in earnings in construction, manufacturing and mining also contributed to the positive figures.
The latest figures come on the back of a much poorer performance in the previous quarter, where inustries bled thousands of jobs.
Employment in the formal non-agricultural sector went up by 0.4 percent between April and June, driven by community and business services, as well as the mining industry.
Affluent suburbs in Johannesburg and Pretoria, as well as those in central Johannesburg and Soweto, are victims of a water-consumption spike that has seen Gauteng with a supply deficit of almost 400 megalitres a day.
