Major tournament bass fishing returned to Arkansas last weekend, and as usual, Hot Springs proved itself a worthy host.

HOT SPRINGS — A 2018 analysis by the city of Hot Springs and its public housing authority commission identified vacation rentals as a threat to affordable housing. Referencing data from 2012-2016, the Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing Choice said 1,344 housing units in the city were being used seasonally or recreationally.

For a record sixth time, Hot Springs will host the 39th annual Phoenix Bass Fishing League All-American Championship Thursday through Saturday on Lake Hamilton.

Baseball, a Hot Springs hallmark since the 1880s, is the theme of a handsome new Spa City attraction for players, their fans and other interested visitors.

Police returned fire with a lone gunman Thursday night outside the city's convention center after he is accused of shooting into a crowd that had gathered nearby as the Hot Springs World Class High School graduation was ending, killing one person and wounding three others, according to police and sheriff's reports.
