Pinehurst man wins big after buying lottery scratch-off ticket

A Pinehurst man took home more than $400,000 after winning a prize from a $30 scratch-off ticket. Robert Grimone won a $1 million prize after purchasing a $10,000,000 Colossal Cash ticket from the Circle K on Beverly Lane in Southern Pines, according to a statement released by the N.C. Education Lottery. Grimone could have taken the $1 million as an annuity of $50,000 a year over 20 years, but decided instead to take a lump sum of $600,000, the statement said. Police investigate murder near Raeford Road in Fayetteville

The gunman in a fatal shooting Tuesday near Raeford Road is being sought by Fayetteville police. The shooting was reported about 11:46 a.m. in the 4800 block of Alamance Road, according to a statement released by the Fayetteville Police Department. When officers arrived, they found a man with multiple gunshot wounds in a parking lot near a vehicle, it said. Fayetteville might face difficulty finding new use for Market House

The Fayetteville Observer As the Fayetteville City Council considers what to do with the Market House, the options for how it might be used could be limited. City Manager Doug Hewett talked to the council at a special meeting Jan. 27 about potential obstacles to repurposing the Market House. The council voted at the meeting not to demolish it and not to leave it as it is. The council’s other two options are finding a new way to use the Market House or move it to another location. Cumberland County seeing a downward trend in COVID-19 cases

The Fayetteville Observer More than 21,000 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in Cumberland County, but trends related to the disease are going down. The county Health Department reported that 15 county residents died from COVID-19 during the last week of January, according to a statement released by county officials.
