MKRMS seminar on Covid-19: Punjab govt stressed on prevention, diagnosis: Dr Yasmin

LAHORE: Punjab Health Minister Prof Dr Yasmin Rashid has said that Punjab government laid emphasis on prevention and diagnosis soon after outbreak of coronavirus pandemic, which helped control the disease to a reasonable level in the province.
“When the COVID-19 pandemic struck in the province, Punjab was able to conduct only up to 400 tests per day and later enhanced its diagnostic capacity to enable itself to conduct 22,000 to 23,000 tests per day currently,” she said while speaking at a video-conference on “COVID-19 – Importance of Diagnosis for Prevention and Challenges” organised by Mir Khalil-ur-Rehman Memorial Society (Jang Group of Newspapers) here on Wednesday. The Health Minister said that Punjab adopted uniform protocol in treatment of COVID-19, which helped in preventing its disastrous effects to considerable extent. ....

LAHORE: In an interview as the brand ambassador of the National Amateur Short Film Festival (NASFF), Bilal Abbas Khan pointed out how Pakistan needs more platforms based on entertainment.
The Cheekh famed actor appreciates the evolving talents of ambitious, potential filmmakers in Pakistan and points out how the industry could have more potential to grow if there were enough exposure.
Talking about the entertainment industry in Pakistan, the actor said, “Honestly, there aren’t enough digital media platforms in Pakistan. There are a lot of media students who are coming after studying Media Sciences and have a lot of potential but they don’t have the right platforms.” ....

England fly to Sri Lanka on Saturday evening with a psychologist in their ranks and an insistence from their captain, Joe Root, that the emergence of any Covid-19 cases will not automatically trigger an end to the tour.
The two-Test series that begins on 14 January, rearranged from March when the pandemic cut short the trip. This kickstarts nearly three months on the subcontinent for the men’s national teams, with a full tour of India to follow that features four Tests, five Twenty20s and three one-day internationals.
Root described the South Africa cancellation as “a unique situation” and stressed the decision was made above their heads. But he added that Sri Lanka and India represents “a level up” as regards the challenge of touring during the pandemic. ....

PESHAWAR: The youth of Tank including members of All Bettani Youth Movement have taken a step ahead for establishment of police posts to nick drug traffickers by starting wall chalking for fulfilling their most awaited demands with the aim to save the youth and people of the area from this menace of curse.
Taking a step ahead, the youth besides starting wall chalking also launched awareness campaigns in different areas of Tank district to apprise the youth about the use of drugs and its consequences being faced by their families in one way or the other. It is pertaining to mention here that a twelve members committee of Bettani Youth has been constituted to discuss the issue with district administration, police department and other high ups of government departments. ....
