That’s just one of the questions that the Navy’s global Large Scale Exercise aims to answer.
The USS Dwight D. Eisenhower was in a battle in the Mediterranean Sea without ever leaving the pier at Naval Station Norfolk.
The goal of Large Scale Exercise 2023, which began Aug. 9 and will run through 18, is to improve the services' cohesiveness, test new technology, identify gaps in capabilities, and put pressure on military members from the deckplate to the highest level of leadership.
“If you don’t have that objective tension, then it becomes a little bit as we like to say in the Navy, a self-licking ice cream cone,” said Adm. Daryl Caudle, commander of US Fleet Forces.
