Locals allege this free entry of sewage into the water body, which is under five acres in area, has caused a major setback to lake ecology and biodiversity. A study conducted on the lake’s biodiversity a couple of years ago by a city-based organisation showed that Subbarayanakere was visited by 73 bird species over five years. However, locals have a different story to narrate now.
