Community. in the meantime, i understand you re about 60 miles southeast of houston but heading west to columbia today. where are you going? why are you going there? so a lot of the communities down here are being potentially threatened by the brazos river, which is a river that flows down here, which has just seen also, like all the other rivers and bayous, intense, intense rain and intense levels. and so, you know, a lot of these communities are seeing rising floodwaters. the place i m checking in today is called columbia lakes, a subdivision which is surrounded by a levee which is meant to protect it from a creek and from the brazos. yesterday that levee was starting to fail and they were ....

Will go away. we ve been watching these small boat rescues in houston but this is a different situation. if you ve got to get people some distances in houston. we ve seen the idea you could take a small boat into a subdivision or neighborhood like the one you and i were looking at yesterday and you can get them out to a central area where roads are passable in beaumont, you d have to take a much farther distance then get them somewhere by high water vehicle or by truck. and pam, i imagine that there must be people in the bowling alley that have great concerns about relative or elderly relatives and young kids too. yes, they are worried about their other family members who may not have made it out or not sure how they are doing, you know. some of us are staying in contact through facebook. so you have power in there, pam? yes, we do have power. and you ve got running water ....

Boats. what we expect to happen throughout the day is that people are going to check on residents, check and make sure they re okay. we re told in this particular subdivision, though, many of the residents either evacuated yesterday or the day before. we spoke with someone who said that even on sunday that this neighborhood actually had power into monday morning. there was one resident that told us that the water started approaching their front doors on sunday and then had receded a bit, and then all the water started really pouring in on monday. now, you ll recall that is when some of these time releases started happening from the reservoirs in order to relieve the pressures on the dam. so this is one of these neighborhoods that is directly affected by this. the decision to release that water in order to keep not to compromise the dams, in order to keep them functional, those reservoirs were built seven years ago in response to two major floods in the 20s and 30s here in houston. ....

Taking out as many people who wanted to come out as possible. so all that work has continued. the good news is, we re seeing some of the floodwaters here receding. if you take a look down here at the ground, john, see where the high water mark had come up here to the street from this particular subdivision, so at least here in the last couple of hours, it has dropped a decent amount. with the rain stopping, the hope here is that this will recede as quickly as possible, but the question is, they ve never seen flooding like this, so they don t know how long it s going to take really for all of these floodwaters to recede. it is unbelievable the amount of work that has been done here over the course of the last 24 hours. in a town nearby, more than 2,000 people were evacuated from their homes in just over 24 hours. so that, dramatic work and intense work throughout much of the region. we re on the south side of houston, this isn t just a problem confined to the city ....

Now! did people follow your orders? we actually put that message out door to door two days ago in that subdivision. national weather service has predicted for the last several days that the water from tbra - river was going to be high. we did put that message out. the breach was started out as a minor breach and luckily we had had good citizens, road bridge crews, local contractor volunteers got out there. they got it under control with ply wood, building materials and a contractor our road bridge guys brought in sand bags. brought in clay, got it packed in. they got the levy fortified this morning. you think that s good enough ....
