Astronomers assumed maybe something had interfered to prevent the star formation in those galaxies, despite the fact that they contained vast cold hydrogen gas
Don't show me this message again✕ Cose-up view of the moon-forming disk surrounding PDS 70c, a young Jupiter-like planet nearly 400 light-years away (ALMA (ESO/NAOJ/NRAO)/Benisty et al) Astronomers have spotted a moon-forming disc around a planet outside of our solar system. It is the first time that scientists can be sure they have seen such a disc – which could be forming new satellites around its host world – around an exoplanet. The new findings could help show how moons and planets are able to form in solar systems when they are still young. That process still remains largely mys...
"We used to think that all stellar nurseries across every galaxy must look more or less the same, but this survey has revealed that this is not the case, and stellar nurseries change from place to place," lead author Adam Leroy, associate professor of astronomy at The Ohio State University, said in a statement. "These nurseries are responsible for building galaxies and making planets, and they're just an essential part in the story of how we got here." This five-year survey was tackled using a small segment of the cosmos called the nearby universe, due to its convenient location near our Milk...
The survey charted more than 100,000 stellar nurseries across 90 galaxies.
