Returned from cairo. and there you re seeing, brian, this incredible location, the crowds of people who have gathered. this is really the situation, the scenario they wanted to see happen a couple weeks ago. i m very curious, when we get richard engel back up with us, to find out how it is the people in the square are following things. sometimes they ve had, whether it s a giant tv screen or bedsheets with a projection on it, a form of media where they can follow the live coverage. we re dipping out dipping in and out of various feeds, one of them is al jazeera english language and one of them said mubarak has handed power over to the military. that may be wishful thinking and veering into speculation a little early for people to see just that statement. but thin this waiting period, i is still important for the egyptian government to be seen with mubarak/suleiman meeting going on. we actually pulled up some of ....
Omar suleiman may have some very short-term transitional role the way he has in the last two weeks. i do not see the protesters accepting a long-term role for him given the role that he has had in accepting essentially the mantle from mubarak. egyptian state tv just in the last hour broadcasting pictures of mubarak and suleiman meeting together. that may look good from mubarak s side of things. it does not look good from the protesters side of things. and there is such a larger lesson to draw here about the human spirit and the human desire for freedom and anger at deprivation, political repression, corruption, and a lack of freedom of speech. we will have more with rachel maddow, brian williams, and of course, richard engel, who began breaking all of this news in cairo right after this break. meanwhile, continuing to follow today s breaking developments out of egypt, where president mubarak could be announcing his resignation, president obama is expected to speak from egypt at ab ....
