The Central government has released guidelines for hospitals to determine if a patient needs to be treated in an intensive care unit (ICU). The guidelines, developed by a committee of 24 eminent physicians with specializations in critical care medicine, list medical issues such as altered consciousness, significant intraoperative complications, expected worsening conditions, and severe acute illnesses requiring extensive monitoring.
