第46回社会人野球日本選手権は第4日の2日、神戸市のほっともっとフィールド神戸で1回戦が行われ、第1試合は9大会連続37回出場の日本生命（大阪）が、初出場の全足利ク（栃木）を3－0で降し、9大会連続で初戦を突破した。10日の2回戦（京セラドーム大阪）でホンダ（埼玉）と対戦する。

高橋は昨年の都市対抗初戦に先発し、負けている。その悔しさもバネにしているのでは。今年は新人が多く、春先はかみ合わない部分もあったが、高橋らが引っ張るように頑張っている。
（次戦の）ホンダは昨年の都市対抗で優勝した実力者。こちらは初戦敗退で悔しい思いをしただけに、胸を借りるつもりで戦いたい。
