SYDNEY (AP) — Australian gold medalist Mack Horton, who had an intense rivalry with China’s Sun Yang, announced his retirement Sunday from international swimming.
Australian champion swimmer Mack Horton, a fierce anti-doping campaigner, called time on his career Sunday just months ahead of the Paris Olympics.
After an epic duel in the 1500 free at the 2023 World Championships, Ahmed Hafnaoui and Bobby Finke could have the 14:30 barrier within reach in 2024.
The 27-year-old Horton said he was planning on pursuing a third Olympics in Paris this summer until last year's Australian Trials.
