consolidation: Could 2024 be a year of big change for private sector banks? Sunil Subramaniam answers

Sunil Subramaniam says: “Even within the mutual fund, almost 30% of the SIP book is in small and midcap space plus another 30% in multi-caps. So roughly half of the SIP book of Rs 17,000 crore is available for buying in the smaller end of the cap curve and even mutual fund institutional participation in the IPOs, would be having the money to deploy in good quality IPOs.

IT market consolidation: Hang in there in IT; market likely to consolidate till new year: Sunil Subramaniam

Sunil Subramaniam says: “I am optimistic that not only will the festival season numbers reflect well, the guidance in January for the next few months will also be good. The last two summers have been disappointing from a consumer discretionary perspective; hopefully this time around with the election around the consumer discretionary story will also step-up during summer.”

volatility: Sunil Subramaniam explains why market is volatile now and says FIIs will return in January

“When the FIIs come back into India, see, they are coming from a super safe market like the US to an emerging country risk oriented market. They will always tend to buy the safety aspects of the market, that is number one. Number two, if you see the composition of FII flows, passive flows are dominating. So, passive flows tend to buy the index.”

sunil subramaniam: Consumption is the best pack. PSU banks best positioned to get inflows: Sunil Subramaniam

“I expect these consumption-related stocks, sector earnings to be better and some amount of capital drag to come in so that capital will push up the prices there. From a tactical point of view till the elections, rural-oriented consumption is probably going to get a little more capital and tactically, it makes sense to allocate a little more into that at this point in time.”

stocks to buy: Sunil Subramaniam on 2 sectors to bet on as 2024 elections loom

“A broad-based rally in largecaps – not market cap broad-based, but sectorally broad-based within the largecap space – would be the best strategy for investors to adopt. If they want to go beyond largecap funds, then flexi-cap funds represent a good option because they normally have 15-20% or maybe up to 30% in the broader market.”

sunil subramaniam: Top-line consumption growth is back; market discounting state election results: Sunil Subramaniam

“With commodity prices falling, we are going to see margins increase. From an overall situation, I would rather see that the consumption pack sacrifice margins for growth at this stage because that will have a multiplier effect on their own business and the economy. Getting growth back is positive because capacity utilisation has kind of frozen.”

Lion Hill's Krishna Kumar on his investment style, filters, valuing stocks, and diversification

Kumar managed Sundaram’s hugely successful small cap and midcap funds and was Chief Investment Officer when he left the organisation in 2021. In a free wheeling conversation with Moneycontrol, he spoke about his approach to investing, how he values a stock and why he prefer a diversified portfolio rather than taking concentrated bets.
