Vigneshwari arrived in India on a tourist visa that was set to expire on August 15, 2021. The couple applied for a year-long extension of her visa on the grounds of her marriage to an Indian citizen, with the hope that Vigneshwari can obtain Indian citizenship in the future. The police advised them to register their marriage officially to prevent any potential legal complications.
