Abalone dealers nabbed after car overturns with loot in the boot
A couple was caught with abalone after their vehicle overturned in PE, exposing their illicit consignment.

An accident scene in Port Elizabeth led to the end of the road for a couple who were seemingly dealing in abalone.
Eastern Cape police said the couple’s illicit activities were discovered when their car overturned on Sunday evening, exposing their loot.
“It is alleged that at about 5.30pm, SAPS Swartkops attended a complaint of an accident on the N2 near Coega IDZ [Industrial Development Zone]. On arrival, they found a silver Opel Corsa had overturned. After assessing the damage of the vehicle, they discovered eight bags containing 809 units of abalone in the boot,” police said in a statement. ....

SURPRISE FIND: Port Elizabeth police arrested a couple for the illegal possession of eight bags of abalone after their car overturned on the N2 on Sunday evening

An accident turned into a crime scene when Port Elizabeth police discovered more than R300,000 worth of perlemoen in a car that had overturned on the N2 on Sunday evening.
Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu said a couple, aged 33 and 23, were arrested shortly after police officials arrived on the accident scene at about 5.30pm.
“It is alleged that SAPS Swartkops attended a complaint of an accident on the N2 near the Coega IDZ. On arrival, they found a silver Opel Corsa had overturned,” Naidu said. ....

Hundreds of fish have died in what seems to be the latest eruption of the alien hazardous algal bloom Heterosigma akashiwo in the Swartkops estuary.
The algae first surfaced in the Swartkops in February 2020, but this is the first time a mass fish die-off has occurred.

Motherwell man found guilty of murdering woman to be sentenced on Tuesday

A Motherwell man convicted of murdering his alleged girlfriend before dumping her in the Swartkops River, will hear his fate on Tuesday after his sentencing was postponed due to his attorney falling ill.
Masixole Dlaku, 44, was found guilty of murdering Nothemba Mali, 31, on September 8 2018. Her badly beaten body was wrapped in plastic and found the in river the following day.
