Image: Twitter Eswatini Acting Prime Minister, Themba Masuku, says only people with special permits will be allowed to travel to other countries.
The Kingdom of Eswatini has strengthened its lockdown regulations following an increase of COVID-19 cases since last month. So far, more than 4 000 positive COVID-19 cases have been recorded and about 140 people have died due to the virus.
The Eswatini government has announced that international travelling will only be allowed for medical attention, schooling, work and business.
Social gatherings have been banned and burials beyond the three-day period from the date of death will require a permit. ....

eSwatini teachers oppose hasty school reopening : New Frame


8 August 2019: The eSwatini government has insisted on opening schools during a spike in Covid-19 cases despite protest from parents and teachers.
A few days after the World Health Organization (WHO) declared Covid-19 a pandemic, and after parents expressed concern about their children being exposed, the eSwatini government closed schools. Parents and teachers welcomed the decision, hoping the situation would be resolved soon. The country only had a handful of confirmed cases and no deaths. As of this writing, 2 856 people have tested positive, and 49 have died.
On 6 July 2020, the ministry of education and training ignored the protests of parents and teachers and reopened schools. The form five class (equal to South Africa’s grade 12) were first to go back to prepare for external exams in October and November. No specialists were involved in sanitising schools. Teachers had to do the work themselves. So, a week earlier, they returned, not to teach but to scrub floors. ....

MBABANE – The cat is out of the bag!
The Times SUNDAY can reveal that the Swaziland Nurses Association (SNA), popularly known as the Swaziland Democratic Nurses Union (SWADNU), bought property in Mbabane for E12 million. The association, which has a membership of about 2 000 nurses, bought the prestigious Mbabane Golf Course Corner from MA Dlamini Properties a year ago. The purchase of the spacious offices had been kept confidential.  Bheki Mamba, the President of SWADNU, confirmed the purchase of the property, which he described as their biggest achievement so far. “We celebrate a one year big purchase anniversary,” he said. ....
