Override as well. there were 22 types of switches within the flight deck that can be used to control the locking mechanism. one is a toggle switch that s on the center pedestal that has normal position lock and override. that override position is really important in the course of this investigation because that disconnects the keypad used by the flight attendant or the other pilot who is outside of the cockpit to gain access into the cockpit if the pilot becomes incapacitated. so it is starting to look like we may have a nefarious scenario here. that would be my leading hypotheticals but we have to keep all options open. all of them. anthony roman, thank you very much. michael goldfarb thank you. ....

Start first with you, david soucie. the recorders that we heard that they ve retrieved, they ve accessed the cockpit voice recorder, what he called the sound recorder. to quote his exact words, there is sound on it and it takes us up to the moment of impact. that s extremely important right now because of the fact that now it s documented. whatever was said in that cockpit between the crew is documented. in addition to that, there s other noises, flips of switches, moves of controls, that s documented. but without the flight data recorder, we may have trouble interpreting that. he wouldn t release any of that yet and he says he s unlikely to do so in the near future. why will we not hear i don t mean the audio, but release the transcript of that yet? the transcript needs to be vetted first and understand what s in there, what s not in there. it can be used npin a violationf something was done improper. ....

It documents all that. it must be analyzed and viewed. it s so important during an investigation to not lose credibility and that would happen if this came out too soon. and then there s the grisly process of identifying the crew members talking within the cockpit confines or talking to the cabin. so you re more than likely germanwings is going to contact fellow crew members and say, can you identify these voices so they can attach those voices to transmissions over the radio or to whatever they were saying to each other. and there are a variety of microphones, aren t there, in the cockpit that will not only give any background noises but will distinguish between the two pilots? absolutely. that s all part of it. it s a long process of writing this transcript, identifying noises with particular switches. they ll probably utilize a320 pilots to determine what each ....

Some of those answers are starting to come from the plane s cockpit voice recorder. this is the strongest clue investigators have in their hands. the exterior of germanwings flight 9525 s cockpit voice recorder looks damaged but french authorities revealed today they have had some success. we are very glad that the first flight recorder has been retrieved yesterday and the french authority confirmed just a few hours ago that one of the audio streams is readable. reporter: the cockpit voice recorder captured audio up to the moment of impact. it will provide critical information like whether the pilots were talking in the minutes leading up to the crash. what were they saying and what else was happening in the cockpit. they re prepared to work with whatever they ve got to get the information. it s more than just voice. they can hear what switches are being thrown and what buttons are being pushed. they can tell a lot about what s going on in the cockpit from ....

Planes crews, for it to crash and in terms of figuring out the why, you have these different black boxes, you have the flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder. they managed to find the chip of the cockpit voice recorder. they have heard voices heard sounds and what s interesting to me people at home may not realize as they re listening, different alarm bells go off for different issues right? they will be able to hear what s happening to hopefully connect the dots. absolutely right. you get a siren for a particular warning, you get a bell electronic bell for another kind of warning. in addition to the fact different switches have different sounds not that this would be a factor but the gear going up and down is certainly something you can hear over what we call the cockpit area mic, literally a mic on the overhead panel of the airplane. you can hear tones. lot of things that are involved with cockpit communication. ....
