New Delhi: With counting of votes underway, the DMK is currently leading in 117 and its allies in 19 of the state’s 234 seats, and the AIADMK alliance is leading in 94 seats.
As per the available data on the EC site, the DMK appears on course to emerge as not only the single largest party in the state but also to gain a complete majority on its own. The All India Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, which had also badly lost the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in the state – managing to win just one seat while the DMK-led alliance had walked away with all the other 38 – has shown little sign of improvement in these polls. ....

CHENNAI: The list of candidates released by the DMK on Friday for 173 seats pitted the party in a direct fight with arch-rival AIADMK in 131 constituencies for the TN assembly poll slated to be held on April 6.
While DMK president M K Stalin will seek a third term from Kolathur constituency, his son Udhayanidhi will make his electoral debut from the Chepauk-Triplicane constituency, represented by his late grandfather M Karunanidhi for three straight terms since 1996. The DMK is hoping to make a comeback after a 10-year stint in the opposition. ....
