In a relief for electronic companies, the government today deferred the plan to curb laptop and tablet imports by three months.
The deputy IT minister on Friday said that there will be a transition period for new norms relating to the import of tablets and laptops, these will be notified soon.
The notice added that imports would be allowed against a valid licence for restricted imports.
The restriction include mailing, using couriers, or purchasing an individual laptop, tablet, desktop, or ultra-compact computer from an online retailer and shipping it to a recipient abroad.
