CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu government on Saturday announced extension of lockdown for another week ending at 6 am on June 14 and eased lockdown curbs in most of the districts. The government announced additional easing of curbs in Chennai.
An official release said that already permitted activities would continue in all the districts.
Though the Covid-19 spread has come under control in several districts, 11 districts -- Coimbatore, the Nilgiris, Tirupur, Erode, Salem, Karur, Namakkal, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattanam and Mayiladuthurai -- report a high number of cases. However, certain relaxations are extended in these districts too to meet the essential requirements of the people, chief minister M K Stalin said in a statement.

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu chief minister M K Stalin on Tuesday sought the full cooperation of the people in the state to put an end to the lockdown.
In a video message, Stalin said people would have understood that lockdowns helped bring down Covid-19 cases. “But it (lockdown) cannot be prolonged. It is in the hands of the people to put an end to it,” he said.

Stalin said the state was facing the second wave due to the failure to put an end to the first wave of the pandemic. It created a crisis for the state's medical infrastructure and finance, he said. “We should come out of it soon. People of the state should take responsibility to break the chain of transmission of the virus and return to development and progress,” he said.

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu government on Friday announced extension of total lockdown for another week ending 6am on June 7.
“As the total lockdown draws to a close on May 31, I have ordered an extension for a week -- after a district-wise review on the severity of Covid -- to prevent the spread of the virus and to save precious lives,” chief minister M K Stalin said.
The chief minister said the existing sale of fruits and vegetables through departments concerned would continue to exist in all districts to meet the daily requirements of the people.
