PM Modi calls up Bengal governor on violence, Didi smells 'President's rule' | India News

Accusing BJP of “growing desperate for President’s rule” and instigating the postpoll “communal clashes” that have also claimed five TMC workers and one from the ISF, Mamata Banerjee vowed to “tackle the situation” after taking oath on Wednesday.
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to West Bengal governor Jagdeep Dhankhar, expressing anguish over the rise in political violence after Trinamool Congress won the election while BJP chief J P Nadda visited the state to meet families of party workers killed in retribution, allegedly by ruling party supporters.
More than 12 people have been reportedly killed and many attacked while several families have fled their homes, according to BJP. "PM called and expressed his serious anguish and concern at the alarmingly worrisome law and order situation. I share grave concerns given that violence, vandalism, arson, loot and killings continue unabated. Concerned must act in overdrive to restore order," Dhankhar tweeted.

West Bengal elections 2021: How many complaints filed against Modi for doing Hindu-Muslim every day, asks Mamata Banerjee | India News

The EC on Wednesday directed Mamata to submit a written clarification explaining her open demand for votes on communal grounds for her party Trinamool Congress in the ongoing Assembly elections in the state.
She had said, "I am requesting my minority brothers and sisters with folded hands, don't divide the minority votes after listening to the devil person who had taken money from the BJP. He passes many communal statements and initiates clashes between the Hindus and the Muslims. He is one of the apostles of the BJP, comrade. The comrades of CPM and BJP are roaming around with the money given by the BJP to divide the minority votes."

New Delhi, April 6 : The BJP on Monday met the Election Commission of India (ECI) and urged it to take appropriate action against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for allegedly promoting enmity between the otherwise peace loving communities and other electoral offences.
Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, BJP national secretary Sunil Deodhar, senior leader G.V.L. Narasimha Rao and others met the poll panel and submitted a memorandum which said Banerjee in an election meeting at Tarkeshwar on April 3 had appealed to the Muslim voters not to let their votes get split among different political parties.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took swipes at each other at simultaneous election rallies in Bengal yesterday as the election campaign for the state assembly heats up a notch further ahead of third-phase of voting in the restive state.
PM Modi added a twist to Mamata's "khela hobe (game on)" dig at him - he said it's "khela sesh (game over) if players keep criticising umpires", alluding to the Trinamool's repeated criticism of the Election Commission.
Mamata, campaigning at North 24 Parganas district, just 58 km from Tarkeshwar, where PM Modi was giving an election speech, attacked the BJP using the Trinamool's main weapon - that of calling the BJP a party of "outsiders" in Bengal.
