Data crunching by ETMutualFunds revealed that around nine mid cap schemes gave more than 15% in three, five, seven, and 10 year horizons. Six small caps, three ELSS, and flexi cap funds, two multi cap and value funds, one large & mid cap and contra fund also offered more than 15% in all these four horizons.
We considered all equity schemes like large cap, mid cap, large & mid cap, small cap, ELSS, multi cap, flexi cap,focused fund, contra and value. We considered regular and growth options.
Mutual funds are one of the popular ways of investment among retail investors in India. There are three main categories of mutual funds available in the Indian market. Largecap Funds, Midcap Funds, and Smallcap Funds are the most popular funds.
The mid cap schemes are benchmarked against Nifty Midcap 100 - TRI, Nifty Midcap 150 - TRI, and S&P BSE 150 MidCap - TRI. Nifty Midcap 100 - TRI, Nifty Midcap 150 - TRI, and S&P BSE 150 MidCap - TRI lost around 3.07%, 2.96%, and 2.85%. On an average the benchmarks lost around 2.94% on Tuesday.
During January-June 2023, only nine schemes outperformed their respective benchmarks. This indicates 69% of underperformance by the mid cap schemes.
