The statement comes amidst a report that the software industry is going soft on hiring as demand falters from their key markets and some of them are even going back on their campus offers
The situation is worse in the case of the Indian IT industry, with none of the 54 companies in the NSE-1000 index having a female CEO. Market leader TCS, which employs more than 200,000 women (constituting over a third of its workforce), has no women in its key managerial personnel (KMPs), as per its annual report. In fact, among the top 5 IT companies, only Wipro has a woman in a KMP role - it appointed Aparna Iyer as CFO in September last year.
On the company's push to get staffers back to offices, the CEO said that important learning comes from seeing colleagues and seniors at work, and such lessons can't be taught if people work from home.
The BSE Sensex was trading 82 points or 0.11% higher at 72,509. Nifty50 was trading at 22,083, up 43 points or 0.19% at around 9.20 am. From the Sensex pack, NTPC, Bharti Airtel, Power Grid, SBI, ITC, and Nestle opened in the green, while Wipro, TCS, L&T, IndusInd Bank, and Tech Mahindra opened in the red.
