The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has cemented its position as a leader in digital government, once again getting the top spot in the Government Electronic and Mobile Service (GEMS) maturity index in 2023, published by the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA). It is for the second consecutive year that Saudi Arabia achieves this impressive feat, boasting a remarkable overall maturity score of 93%.

Digital investments in government operations not only make them more efficient, but they also increase preparedness for emergencies, whether related to public health, climate, fragility, or trade. This was made clear during the COVID-19 pandemic. As noted in the recent World Bank 2022 report “GovTech Maturity Index (GTMI): Trends in Public Sector Digital Transformation,” which showcases countries’ overall advancement in digital transformation, the pandemic highlighted how much of a difference GovTech solutions can make during times of crisis and need.

Slovenia is among the best countries on the World Bank's 2022 GovTech Maturity Index (GTMI), measuring growth trends in digital transformation of the public sector. Data collected between March and August 2022 place Slovenia in group A, the best of four groups.
