Using HPC and experiment, researchers continue to refine graphene production

From touch screens and advanced electronic sensors to better drug delivery devices, graphene has become one of the most promising new materials in recent decades. 'Floating' microgrids: Optimizing naval ships' power systems

Supported by two Office of Naval Research grants totaling $900,000, Wenxin Liu, of Lehigh University, will continue research into the advanced control of power systems through algorithmic design and hardware experimentation. He will examine real-time optimal power flow control in power electronic power distribution systems and investigate the coordination of heterogeneous generators within a naval ship s power system. Mangrove Root Model May Hold the Key to Preventing Coastal Erosion

How mangrove roots interact with water flow is believed to be a key element in mitigating coastal erosion. Researchers are the first to quantify the optimal mangrove root hydrodynamic with a predictive model, which provides insight into the sediment transport and erosion processes that govern the evolution of the shapes of shorelines. Results can provide useful guidance for coastal managers restoring estuarine mangrove forests or planting mangroves as part of living shoreline stabilization. ....
