Sekar Babu on Wednesday distributed COVID-19 relief kits to 219 temple priests in Chennai circle at an event at the wedding Hall managed by the Kapaleeswarar temple. The kits consisted of ₹4,000 each and 15 provision items. These were given to priests who do not draw salaries. Around 12,900 priests in temples managed by the HR and CE have been identified throughout the State under the scheme. Member of Parliament Thamizhachi Thangapandian was also present on the occasion. ....

Free groceries for temple priests in rural areas Free groceries for temple priests in rural areas ByY Maheswara ReddyY Maheswara Reddy / Updated: May 21, 2021, 06:00 IST Minister for Hindu Religious Organisations, Endowments and Backward Classes Welfare Kota Srinivasa Poojari on Thursday issued a circular directing the Commissioner for Endowments to make arrangements to provide groceries to the priests working in temples in rural areas. “Arrangements should be made to utilise groceries stocked at A category temples to distribute among the priests in rural areas. If there is shortage for groceries at A category temples, arrangements have to be made to procure groceries worth Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500 for each of the priests in rural areas,” the minister said in the circular. ....
“I have been working as a priest at Gangadharasawmy Temple in Tumakuru. I get Rs 30,000 per year from Muzrai Department as a salary. I have been depending on donations from devotees. With the closure of temples for devotees due to the lockdown, it has become tough for me to look after my family,” said Ravi Dixit, a priest. ....
