Melfort, SK, Canada / CJVR Today s Best Country Mar 14, 2021 8:00 AM The Town of Hudson Bay has received grants for two projects through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP). The most expensive project, but one likely to be completed soon, is the sewage lift station #1, and upgrading the force main. Chief administrative officer Teresa Parkman says it will be almost a complete overhaul of the lift station. “Basically to replace the whole number one lift station with the mechanics, the building, the pumps,” she said. “And also, the sewer force main to make that bigger.” Parkman added that almost all of the groundwater, sewage, and residential weeping tile go through and it gets pumped into the lagoon, but there have been issues. ....
A water main break in the Town of Hudson Bay has affected all residents in the town. The break on Railway Avenue between Prince Street and Albert Street was first reported on Feb. 13 as water was seen flowing in the street. Crews were able to get things under control and now the town is asking residents to conserve their water for the next few days as crews work to repair the break. “It’s an isolated area that was affected,” town administrator Teresa Parkman said. “But in the end, we did turn down water pressure for the whole town just to try and conserve as much water as we could.” ....

If residents willingly participate in the census right away, that saves town staff an appeal later. Population numbers are used to decide things like local policing and grant distribution by the province, said Barry Elliott, chief administration officer for the Town of Nipawin, so they want those population numbers to be as accurate as possible. Residents not taking the time to fill out the census or proving not to can have a deep impact on communities and Elliott cannot stress enough the importance of the census. ....
This time, the council has approved a cleaning technique that will not disrupt water distribution with Scantron Robotics will be using a Remote Operated Vehicle machine to both inspect and clean the entire reservoir water system, including tanks, wells, cooling towers, and collection tanks.
Town administrator Teresa Parkman said the recommendation is to have the reservoir cleaned every three to five years. Other cleaning techniques that were discussed at council would have distributed water distribution but the ROV will not.
With the decision being made ahead of budget season in April, the cleaning costs will be put into the 2021 budget, Parkman said. ....
