(OSV News) -- One of the leading figures in the Catholic Church's effort to protect children from sexual abuse, Cardinal Sean P. O'Malley of Boston, is named in a new lawsuit claiming he failed to properly supervise at the time a vice principal who abused three teens at a Catholic high school. The Boston archbishop, along with five other archdiocesan officials, is a defendant in the lawsuit filed May 5 in Suffolk Superior Court by attorney Mitchell Garabedian on behalf of three former students.

The Archdiocese of Boston said that the allegations were reported to law enforcement when the high school became aware of them.

Maureen DiMilla has resigned from the committee charged with drafting gender identity guidelines for students in Boston Catholic schools, citing concerns about transparency and lack of input from transgender people.
